Prof Babatunde Ajayi Olofinbiyi is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Adolescent Reproductive health at the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. He was born at Iworoko-Ekiti in Ifelodun/Irepodun Local Government of Ekiti State on the 25th of May, 1969. He had a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of Ilorin in year 2000. He holds Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons (FWACS); and Fellowship and Diploma Certificates in Minimal Access Surgery from World Laparoscopic Hospital Training Centre, New Delhi, India; and a Master of Science degree in Public Health from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom. At present, he is pursuing a PhD program in Public Health at Ekiti State University.

He was the first medical officer to be sponsored by Ekiti State Government for in-service training to pursue a 5-year specialist course in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife in 2004. Dr Olofinbiyi decided to pursue Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a line of specialty because he has always had strong passion for women-related reproductive issues and more so his fore-fathers and great fore-fathers were unmatchable and distinguished traditional birth attendants of their time. He was confirmed a Fellow of West African College of Surgeons in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2009.

He was sponsored again by Ekiti State Government to pursue a course in Minimal Access Surgery at the World Laparoscopic Hospital Training Center in New Delhi, India in 2010; this earned him a Fellowship and Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery and a life member of World Laparoscopic Surgeons. He was employed as one of the pioneer lecturers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of Ekiti State University College of Medicine in 2011.

He was sponsored again by Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for a program on Diabetes in Pregnancy in San Francisco, United State of America in 2014; which conferred on him a honour of an Active Member of International Study Groups on Diabetes in Pregnancy.

He is a Honorary Consultant at the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado- Ekiti and the first Residency Training Coordinator in the department who produced the first trained nine senior registrars and the department’s first three specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, during which the department recorded the highest pass rate in the history of postgraduate training programmes in the hospital. He was recently appointed as the Coordinator of the Nationwide World Health Organization (WHO)-Federal Ministry of Health Harmonized Maternal and Perinatal Database Project, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital/Ekiti State Chapter, Nigeria. Dr Olofinbiyi Babatunde was the Acting Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Ekiti State University College of Medicine between year 2020 and 2022; the department experienced the highest level of development and unprecedented feats in the departmental structure, service delivery, training and research in the two years of his stewardship. Dr Babatunde Olofinbiyi is a visiting Associate Professor to Afe Babalola College of Health Sciences and a Consultant to ABUAD Multisystem Hospital.

He was also the Chairman, Capacity Building Committee, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for 7 years, making him the longest serving chairman of the committee. He was also a member of Hospital Management Committee, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for 7 years and also the longest serving member of the committee in the history of the hospital. He is an active member of Federal Road Safety Corps, Ekiti State Chapter. Dr Olofinbiyi is the Coordinating Consultant at Ekiti State Police Command Hospital where he upgraded the status of the health facility from cottage clinic to tertiary hospital status within 5 years; during which he established highly functioning surgical, obstetric and gynaecological units which are now appreciably complementing the specialized medical and surgical services of the existing tertiary institutions in the State. He is the Medical Director of Eden Life Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti; the first Adolescent Friendly Health Facility in the State, that renders the most affordable, accessible, acceptable and holistic sexual and reproductive health services to adolescents and young adults in Nigeria.

Dr Olofinbiyi is also the Provincial and Regional Director of Health and Medical services, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigeria, Ekiti Province 5 and Region 25 respectively; and also a parish Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ekiti Province 5, Ado-Ekiti. Recently, he was appointed as the Director of Medical Services and Health, RCCG Region 25 Directorate of Youths and Young Adults Affairs. Dr Olofinbiyi is a visiting consultant and surgeon to the Redeemed Christian Church of God Hospital, Redemption City of God, Lagos; where he has been consistently coordinating the free health mission of the organization. He is also a member of Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria. He is also the present Chairman, Parent-Teacher-Association of Fountain International High School, Ado-Ekiti, where he is currently coordinating the building and establishment of the first secondary school adolescent friendly clinic in Ekiti State. He is a consistent reviewer for many learned local and international journals. He has 110 publications in both local and international journals. Dr Olofinbiyi was the first lecturer from Ekiti State University to be a member of Global Burden of Disease Research Hub based in Washington, USA.

He has had many awards of excellence for outstanding contributions to humanity and health. In the beginning of the year 2019, precisely March, a chapter, tagged “Tamed Champion” was written about Dr Olofinbiyi Babatunde’s personality in a book titled ‘The Entrepreneur’; authored by the then Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, a renowned business man and agriculturist of international repute – Prince Olabode Adetoyi. Dr Olofinbiyi was the overall best resident of the year, awarded by Medical and Dental graduating students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 2010/2011. He was also the best graduating student, school of disciple, Ekiti State Province 1, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ado-Ekiti in 2016. In 2016, Dr Olofinbiyi was given an award of the Friend of Association of Resident Doctors of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti; and he happened to be the first consultant to get this type of award in the history of the teaching hospital. He would also be the first medical doctor to be a Patron to Students’ Union Government of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital School of Nursing, Ado-Ekiti. This year 2023, Dr Babaatunde Ajayi Olofinbiyi was also given an Award of Meritorious Service to Humanity and Special Love for the Association of Nigeria Nurse Educators (ANNE) during their National Conference; he would be the first medical doctor and medical educator to get this type of special award in the history of organization.

He was awarded a honour of Southwestern Nigeria Outstanding Gynaecologist of the year by the highly reputable Southwest Nigeria Excellence Awards Organization at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife, on the 3rd of October, 2019. At the State Level, in 2022, Dr Olofinbiyi was the only medical lecturer given a privilege of contributing a chapter to a State book (first of its kind in the history of Ekiti State) published in honour of the first female head of service of Ekiti State, Mrs Peju Babafemi, titled, ‘Adolescent reproductive health challenges: a striking area affecting the core values of future leaders’, in Leadership, policy process, and governance in the Nigerian public service. Recently, he was celebrated by the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University for winning the university’s Best Manuscript Award of the Nigerian of Journal Health Sciences; for which the Ekiti State House of Assembly gave him acknowledgement and commendation. Recently, the Radio Nigeria honored Dr Olofinbiyi with an award of outstanding gender advocate and philanthropist. More recently, the founder of Afe Babalola University, a fore front Nigeria stateman, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), celebrated and honored Dr Olofinbiyi on his well deserved monumental awards in various spheres of life; covering academics, profession, religion, social work and other humanitarian services.

His main fields of interest are Adolescent Reproductive Health, Gynae oncology and Gynae endoscopy. Olofinbiyi Babatunde is one of the few Nigerians that are so passionate about adolescent sexual and reproductive health needs. He is doing a lot of work on adolescent reproductive health; especially in the areas of teenage pregnancy and girl-child education support. This has informed his founding a non-governmental organization tagged “Adolescent Friendly Research Initiative and Care” (ADOLFRIC; https://adolfric.org.ng/). The NGO was rated as the best in Ekiti State by the Union Bank of Nigeria in 2019 (https://www.unionbankng.com/blog/enabling-success-for-ngos-winners/ ); other success stories recorded by the organization can be appreciated on the website of the organization (https://adolfric.org.ng/success.html ) Dr Olofinbiyi loves helping the needy and his ultimate goal is to make life better and more meaningful to the adolescents and every young person who are the bedrock of any nation. His hobbies are reading, brainstorming and singing. He is happily married with children. His motivational statement has always been, “He who aspires to acquire what he desires in life must never retire but refire”.
