ADVOCACY FOR ADOLESCENT SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION, INFORMATION AND CARE PRIMARILY THROUGH:

ADOLFRIC Help Link Initiatives (AHLI);

• Television, radio, school and community programmes on adolescent and young people’s sexual and reproductive health information, education and care.


• Handbills, published articles and books on adolescent reproductive health issues; to be used at all levels of education.


• Email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and ADOLFRIC website health information and education etc.


• Initiating collaborations with high schools, tertiary institutions ministries, related Civil Society Organizations and donor bodies with a view to strengthening existing structure for adolescent and young people’s sexual and reproductive health information, education and care.


• Collaboration with donor bodies and other relevant stakeholders to establish a specially designed one -stop-centre (Adolescent and Youth Friendly Centre) that will meet the reproductive health, socioeconomic, educational and research needs of the adolescents and young people of Ekiti State and other States in southwestern Nigeria; with also the aim of replicating the same at other different strategic locations in the country and outside; especially near university communities.


• Linkage with adolescent friendly health facilities for more information, education and extended care.


• Training of trainers in adolescent sexual and reproductive health information, education and care.


• Telemedicine Hub for Adolescent and Young people’s sexual and reproductive health information, education and care.


• Target of incorporating adolescent sexual and reproductive health education into school educational curriculum.

PREVENTION OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY (THEME: ZERO TOLERANCE TO TEENAGE PREGNANCY)

PREVENTION OF UNSAFE ABORTION

• Early diagnosis of pregnancy, counseling, guidance and follow-up for pregnant adolescent girls during early cyesis.
• Immediate and long-term handling of abortion complications through Postabortal Care Network (PACNET).

HIV AND OTHER COMMON STIs PREVENTION IN ADOLESCENTS.

• Education and information on HIV/ other common STIs through ADOLFRIC help link initiatives (AHLI).
• Advocacy on promotion of barrier method of contraception- use of condom.
• Collaboration and linkage with Adolescent friendly clinic, SACA, LACA, other related stakeholders for early detection and treatment of HIV infection, PMTCT of HIV in adolescents, follow up and other related issues on HIV.
• Early detection and treatment of other common STIs.
• Collaboration with other related experts and stakeholders to manage complications of HIV/other STIs; with preference also given to key populations
• Strict adherence to the principle of confidentiality.

EARLY CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION IN ADOLESCENTS

• Education and information on cervical cancer and risk factors for its development with emphasis on human papilloma virus infection and other dangerous life styles and sexual behavior like early exposure to sexual intercourse, multiple sexual partners, smoking etc.; to be achieved through AHLI.


• Advocacy on the importance and value of abstinence and relatively late exposure to sexual intercourse; to be achieved through AHLI


• Education and information on the role of human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination and strategies to increase the immunization coverage for HPV in Ekiti State; to be achieved through AHLI


• Training of trainers.

MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION OF COMMON MENSTRUAL /GYNECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN ADOLESCENT GIRLS INCLUDING BREAST ISSUES AND OTHER RELATED REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM ISSUES IN BOYS.

• Education and Information on menstruation, common menstrual disorders and menstrual hygiene strictly through ADOLFRIC help link initiatives (AHLI).


• Handling of menstrual and other common gynaecological/reproductive system-related challenges through collaboration with the Corporate Social Responsibility Arm (CSR ARM) of Adolescent Friendly Clinics, Hospitals and Health Centers; with referrals also made to the CSR unit of the Obstetric, Gynaecological/Surgical units of the NGO’s Adolescent Friendly Specialist Hospitals Partners; for the management of complicated cases/cases that will need specialist’s attention.

MANAGEMENT/PREVENTION OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND OTHER REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM-RELATED HARMFUL PRACTICES AMONG ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS (E.G. DEFILEMENT, SEXUAL ASSAULT/ RAPE, FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION [FGM], DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ETC.).

• Advocacy on defilement, sexual assault/ rape and FGM- primarily through ADOLFRIC help link initiatives (AHLI).


• Collaboration with the NGO’s adolescent friendly centers to handle freshly defiled, sexually assaulted/rape, FGM victims on both short and long term basis.


• Education on and promotion of use of rape kit.


• Collaboration with law enforcement agencies for proper legal handling of cases
• Training of trainers.

MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH-RELATED MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES.

• Education and information on adolescent and youth mental health through ADOLFRIC help link initiatives (AHLI).


• Collaboration with mental health experts/clinical psychologists in the treatment and follow up of victims.

INITIATION AND SUSTENANCE OF RESEARCHES/ PUBLICATIONS IN ALL THE ABOVE OUTLINED PROGRAMMES ON ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND SEXUALITY.

• Mobilizing our research hub and other supportive research arms to collect quantitative and qualitative data for analysis and publication during the course of their interactions with the adolescents (both in and out of school ones), their trainers/teachers/ guardians/parents and other relevant stakeholders.
